Preparing for bushfire season
As summer approaches it’s essential you make a bushfire survival plan and ensure everyone in your household understands your plan.
Prepare your property
Take the following steps to prepare and maintain your property for bushfire season.
- Clear your roof gutters and keep your property tidy to minimise fuel around your home
- Make sure you know how to manually operate electric garage doors, gates and locks – and practice how to do it
- If you have petrol or diesel water pumps and generators, test them and carry out any required maintenance
- If you have vegetation growing near powerlines connecting to your home, contact a professional to see how you can have this trimmed

Prepare and maintain your emergency kit
- Keep a battery powered AM/FM radio and spare batteries
- Have a torch and spare batteries ready

We're preparing for bushfires too
We’ve been working all year round to implement a comprehensive program to prepare our network for the rigours of summer.
To ensure our network is reliable and resilient to heatwaves, summer storms and potential bushfires, we’ve inspected over 13,000 kilometres of powerlines and 172,000 poles, to find and repair potential hazards and to keep trees a safe distance from powerlines in bushfire zones.
We’re upgrading the network by replacing bare overhead powerlines with covered conductors, installing fire resistant poles and are already implementing new technologies like micro grids, community batteries and early fault detection devices to keep communities safe and the network resilient.
What is a Total Fire Ban day?
A Total Fire Ban (TOBAN) day is declared when weather conditions are expected to be dangerous enough to increase the risk of fires starting and spreading rapidly.
Total fire bans are issued by the NSW Rural Fire Service and are based on forecasts including:
- High temperatures
- Strong winds
- Low humidity
- Dry vegetation conditions
What does Endeavour Energy do on Total Fire Ban days?
On Total Fire Ban days, Endeavour Energy takes additional precautions to reduce the risk of bushfires starting from the electricity network.
These actions are guided by declarations issued by the NSW Rural Fire Service and prevailing weather conditions.
What to do on a high fire danger day?
If you see a fallen or damaged power line, call Endeavour Energy on 131 003 or call 000 if the situation is life-threatening.
